Emergencies

For emergencies in or around the harbour and coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.  At sea, call Humber Coastguard, VHF Ch.16.

Doctor at Sea recounts the stories of E.W.Hicks during his time serving on Wells lifeboat as a doctor and the station Hon Secretary.

Hicks witnessed first-hand acts of bravery, courage and determination by the crew who manned the Wells lifeboat.

He describes how several of these unassuming men put to sea in their small fishing boats, to answer the call for the evacuation of Dunkirk.

Reading the memoirs of Hicks  – as compiled by long-serving Harbour Master, and former lifeboatman, Robert Smith MBE –  illustrates the reality of life living in a small, tight-knit coastal community on the North Norfolk coast.
