The Port of Wells have officially now been given notice by the Sherringham Shoal windfarm operators that they no longer require any berthing facilities at Wells-Next-the-Sea, as their operations model is changing to a hotel ship offshore.
This will bring the following changes to the Port of Wells;
The Outer Harbour which is and has always been owned and in the control of Wells Harbour Commissioners has created a lot of potential business opportunities for the future operation. Once all the options have been explored, it’s future use will be decided.
The dredging operation and the Port dredgers “Kari Hege” and “Tender S”, which are owned and operated by Wells Harbour Commissioners, will continue with dredging operations, when and where required.
The supply vessel “Frank T” which is owned and operated by Wells Harbour Commissioners will be retained as a Port vessel for the present time, while other potential business opportunities and uses are being explored.
The Harbour HGV will no longer be required and the lease hire company has been given notice.

“As disappointing as it is that Equinor have decided to change their business model and are leaving Wells this has not come as any major surprise as the Port has been expecting this announcement for approximately eighteen months, but during this time we have been exploring other business opportunities for the Port that possibly could fill the void that the windfarm operators departure will leave.
As much as this news will bring new challenges, from these challenges, it will also bring exciting new opportunities for the future of the Port”
